Whats new in v0.9.0?

I’m pleased to announce version 0.9.0 of Project&Cut.

(If you are new to Project&Cut, it is a computer application that simplifies projector sewing by letting you easily calibrate your projector setup. See the home page for more details.)

Here’s what’s new:

Translations

The major user interface components of Project&Cut have been translated:

  • Catalonian (Spain) by Maria Girbés
  • Czech (in progress) by Lucie Holá
  • Danish by Anne Lindholt
  • Dutch by José Winkel
  • French by Crazy Racoon
  • German by Yvonne Tataika
  • Japanese by Holly Hiiragi
  • Spanish by Olga Gómez
  • Swedish by Sylvia Lindberg

A thousand thank you’s, translators. It is wonderful to see what happens when creative people work together.

If you are willing to help translate into another language, to make Project&Cut accessible to people in your area, please send me a message at clinton@projectandcut.com.

Note that only the main UI elements have been translated. The instructions, videos, and website are yet-to-be translated.

Improved Keyboard Shortcuts

Here are the keyboard shortcuts in Project&Cut:

Movement

To move the pattern (in Projection Mode):

  • Use the Arrow keys
  • Press Shift+Arrow keys to just nudge the pattern
  • Press Alt+Shift+Arrow or Option+Shift+Arrow to move with an even smaller amount
  • Use Page Up, Page Down, Home, and End to move the pattern further

Moving the corner markers (in Calibration Mode) is similar:

  • Use the Arrow keys to move
  • Shift+Arrow moves a smaller amount
  • Alt+Shift+Arrow or Option+Shift+Arrow moves a really small amount
  • Use Tab and Shift+Tab to switch between the corner markers

Rotation

To rotate the pattern:

  • Rotate 90 degrees using [ and ]
  • Rotate 15 degrees by pressing Control/Command with [ and ]
  • Rotate 1 degree by pressing Alt/Option with [ and ]

Flipping

Flip horizontally and vertically by using H and V

Inverting

Invert the colour scheme by pressing the I key

Other Commands

Other commands are unchanged:

  • Open files with Control+O or Command+O
  • View the Layers And Pages panel with Control+L or Command+L

A Note About Internationalization

I’ve learned that some of the keyboard shortcuts don’t work well with non-US keyboards. I will look into adjusting that in future releases. I am open to feedback on improvements.

Easier File Handling

I’m so glad to announce we have a new menu entry, File -> Open Recent.

This will be great for switching between patterns!

You can bring up a similar menu by right-clicking on the icon in the Taskbar or Dock.

You can also go to File Explorer or The Finder (or your file manager under Linux) and right-click and choose “open with” and open with Project&Cut.

Files Reopen When Changed

One other feature that should make your life easier is that files are automatically reopened whenever they change.

This means you can adjust a file in PDF Stitcher and Export it and see your changes right away. Or, you can edit your file in Inkscape or Affinity Designer, make a change, export to PDF, overwriting the existing file, and it will reload automatically.

Major Bug Fixed

Good news: there’s been a bug where you’d close Project&Cut, and then start it again, and it wouldn’t start. Part of the reason I could never figure it out is it didn’t happen on a Mac, where I do most of my development work. A fellow coder, Tim, told me how to recreate the issue, and then I was able to fix it.

Thank You!

So many talented people have helped shape this project and make it a reality. I’d like to public recognize their efforts.

Thank you:

  • Sasha Sewist, for advice, for introductions to projector sewists around the world, and for your tireless efforts to help projector sewists everywhere
  • Branalyn Dailey, for lots of feedback, and for interviewing me and spreading the word about Project&Cut
  • Sheredith Hardy, for suggestions on improvements, and for coming up with the name “Project&Cut.”
  • Jose Vernooy Winkel, for creating the logo for the project
  • Cayleen Blackmore, my wife, for the icon
  • Dr. Timothy DeWolf, for help when I was stuck with the math, and, more recently, for help with the code
  • software advisors and testors. P&C wouldn’t be nearly as good without you.

I’m very grateful to be able to implement the changes our community needs.

Lastly, thank you, everyone who tries out the software. I hope you love it!

Det er et så super program
Det er bare alletiders at bruge

Når man køber licens kan man så bruge 2 enheder, altså både på Pias og Pc

    • You can use Project&Cut on as many computers as you like. If you have multiple projectors in use at the same time, though, please buy one licence per projector. (If you are running a educational program or a makerspace or something like that, ask me about free licences).
